Torremolinos got its tourism structure established in the fifties when the first hotels were built. The works at Bajondillo esplanade started in 1966. As shown in the picture, the sunshades already filled the beach with colour. San Miguel street became pedestrian in the same year and Torre de la Roca inaugurated the seventies. In 1988 Torremolinos re-gained independence as a municipality. The town has now cut down on irresponsible land speculation and enjoys a variety of leisure activities .
